Job Description

We are seeking mechanically inclined Utility Technicians at our component rebuild center in Flowood.

We Offer: starting pay $13.00+/hour, depending on experience; great benefits; a Mon-Fri schedule with scheduled overtime; uniforms and paid laundry service; and opportunity to enter service technician apprentice program which includes specialized technical training and use of tools while you learn.

The Utility Technician is responsible to support the disassembly, reconditioning, and assembly of Caterpillar engines and powertrain systems. This is an apprentice or assistant level position working under guidance from assigned mentors in a service shop setting. The position reports to the Service Supervisor.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  • Dismantle, clean/lubricate, and assist in the reassembly of components in accordance with all prescribed quality and safety standards. Test, measure, and adjust engine and mechanical system components. Use hand tools such as sockets and wrenches.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance with manufacturer reusability specifications.
  • Organize, maintain, and clean assigned areas of the facility to ensure a safe and clean work environment.
  • Complete daily forklift inspection forms. Prepare service, condition, and safety reports, time cards, and other related paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Conduct basic daily preventive maintenance on a variety of facility equipment as directed.
  • Maintain a professional and proper personal appearance at all times.

Perform related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required plus minimum 1 to 2 years work experience as a mechanical technician or utility worker in an industrial or maintenance environment.
  • Diesel engine, construction equipment and/or truck engine training and certifications through accredited technical schools or relevant military experience preferred.
  • Basic mechanical systems knowledge of industrial equipment and components.
  • Ability to safely use material handling equipment and tooling and wear company required PPE (protective eyewear, gloves, harnesses, footwear) during a shift assignment that could last between 8 and 10 hours.
  • Solid comfort level using computers to perform basic research and data entry.
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
  • Ability to work standard five-day work schedule, including daily overtime, and occasional weekend hours as necessary.
