Job Requirements of Traveling Marine Service Utility Technician:
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Diesel engine, construction equipment and/or truck engine training and certifications through accredited technical schools or relevant military experience preferred.
- Minimum 2 years previous hands-on work experience repairing Caterpillar or competitor diesel and spark ignited engines, and diesel/electric systems related components. Related technician experience in a field service setting preferred.
- Basic mechanical systems knowledge of diesel engines/engine failures and electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to safely use equipment and tooling and wear company required PPE (protective eyewear, gloves, harnesses, footwear) during a shift assignment that could last between 12 and 15 hours in hot and confined spaces.
- Good customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Good problem-solving skills, detail oriented, and ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
- Good computer skills using related information system applications (ex: SIS, DBS).
- Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic fast paced field service environment.
Other Job Requirements:
- Possess a complete set of basic mechanic hand tools including drives, sockets, and wrenches.
- Be able to obtain and maintain a passport and visa for international travel.
- Be at least 21 years old, have and maintain a current and valid driver's license and maintain a driving record (MVR) which adheres to the company’s motor vehicle policy standards.
- This position involves significant amounts of travel with scheduled time off.

Traveling Marine Service Utility Technician
Puckett Machinery Company is the Caterpillar® heavy equipment, rental services, and power systems dealer for central and southern Mississippi. As the industry leader in our territory with 15 locations, helping our customers succeed is our number one priority.
We are seeking Traveling Marine Service Utility Technicians to support our marine, industrial, and petroleum customers with top-end and major/in-frame overhauls of large Caterpillar engines. Assignments will range from several days to several weeks at a time and involve extensive overnight travel (80% of the time) to domestic, offshore, and international locations. Assignments will be primarily dispatched from our Gulfport, MS power systems office, but there is flexibility for technicians to be domiciled outside of Mississippi.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Assist diesel service technicians in the overhaul and repair of reciprocating engine-based marine, industrial, and petroleum power systems.
- Dismantle, clean/lubricate, and assist in the reassembly of components in accordance with all prescribed quality and safety standards. Test, measure, and adjust engine and mechanical system components. Use hand tools such as sockets and wrenches.
- Load/unload, transfer/stage, and maintain the tool kits, gear, and equipment that is used to execute engine overhaul assignments. Deliver/pick up parts, small equipment, and run errands as needed.
- Assist service technicians with heavy/repetitive lifting and material handling as indicated.
- Keep supervisor regularly apprised of status of assigned tasks.
- Maintain a professional and proper personal appearance at all times.
