Job Requirements of Traveling Marine Engine Service Technician-GPT:
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Diesel engine, construction equipment and/or truck engine training and certifications through accredited technical schools or relevant military experience preferred.
- Minimum 4 to 6 years previous hands-on work experience as a diesel technician repairing Caterpillar or competitor diesel and spark ignited engines, and diesel/electric systems related components. Related technician experience in a field service setting preferred.
- Dedicated experience troubleshooting and performing top end and major overhauls on CAT engine models including 3208, 3126, 3300, 300 series, 3400, 3500, 3600, C280.
- Ability to read and comprehend moderately difficult computer-based schematics, specifications, service and parts literature, technical bulletins, safety manuals, and other related publications.
- Solid mechanical systems knowledge of diesel engines/engine failures and electrical and hydraulic systems.
- Proficient in the use of mechanical test equipment including CAT ET.
- Ability to safely use equipment and tooling and wear company required PPE (protective eyewear, gloves, harnesses, footwear) during a shift assignment that could last between 12 and 15 hours in hot and confined spaces.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent problem solving skills, detail oriented, and ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
- Good computer skills using related information system applications (ex: SIS, DBS).
- Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
- Ability to work independently in a dynamic fast paced field service environment.
Other Job Requirements:
- Possess a complete set of basic mechanic hand tools including drives, sockets, and wrenches.
- Be able to obtain and maintain a passport and visa for international travel.
- Have and maintain a current driver's license and maintain a driving record (MVR) which adheres to the company’s motor vehicle policy standards.

Traveling Marine Engine Service Technician-GPT
Puckett Machinery Company is the Caterpillar® heavy equipment, rental services, and power systems dealer for central and southern Mississippi. As the industry leader in our territory with 15 locations, helping our customers succeed is our number one priority.
We are seeking Traveling Marine Engine Service Technicians to support our marine, industrial, and petroleum customers with top-end and major/in-frame overhauls of large Caterpillar engines. Assignments will range from several days to several weeks at a time and involve extensive overnight travel (80% of the time) to domestic, offshore, and international locations. Assignments will be primarily dispatched from our Gulfport, MS power systems office, but there is flexibility for technicians to be domiciled outside of Mississippi.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
- Disassemble, adjust, install, and repair, in conjunction with both top end and major/in-frame overhauls, reciprocating engine based marine, industrial, and petroleum power systems in accordance with all prescribed quality and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot, problem solve, and identify the problem through failure analysis.
- Test, measure, align and adjust engine systems and components.
- Research and determine re-usability of parts in accordance with published manufacturer guidelines.
- Coordinate the ordering of replacement parts with supervisor.
- Prepare and submit detailed, complete and legible service reports of all inspection and repairs performed using prescribed forms and procedures in a timely manner.
- Keep supervisor regularly apprised of status of assigned repair jobs and assist in addressing customer questions and concerns.
- Maintain a professional and proper personal appearance at all times.
- Keep up to date with developments in tooling, technologies and systems.
