Job Requirements of Diesel Field Service Technician-BKN:
•High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Diesel engine, construction equipment and/or truck engine training and certifications through accredited technical schools or relevant military experience preferred.
•Minimum 3 to 5 years previous hands-on work experience as a diesel technician repairing Caterpillar or competitor heavy equipment or applicable diagnostic and troubleshooting experience as a technician in an automotive or truck engine repair shop. Minimum 2 years applicable technician experience in a field service setting required.
•Ability to read and comprehend moderately difficult computer-based schematics, specifications, service and parts literature, technical bulletins, safety manuals, and other related publications.
•Solid mechanical systems knowledge of diesel engines/engine failures, electrical and hydraulic systems.
•Proficient in the use of mechanical test equipment.
•Basic welding/torch cutting skills.
•Ability to safely use material handling equipment and tooling and wear company required PPE (protective eyewear, gloves, harnesses, footwear) during a shift assignment that could last between 8 and 11 hours.
•Current Class R motor vehicle license, DOT medical certification, and other related licenses as required by the Department of Transportation, federal, and/or state statutes.
•Must have and maintain a driving record (MVR) which adheres to the company’s motor vehicle policy standards.
•Good knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures within the transportation industry, including DOT regulations.
•Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
•Good problem solving skills, detail oriented, and ability to work with a high level of accuracy.
•Good computer skills using related information system applications (ex: SIS, DBS).
•Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations.
•Ability to work independently in a dynamic fast paced field service environment.
•Ability to work standard five-day work schedule, including daily overtime, and occasional weekend hours as necessary.

•Possess a complete set of basic mechanic hand tools including drives, sockets, and wrenches.

Diesel Field Service Technician-BKN
Puckett Machinery Company is the Caterpillar® heavy equipment, rental services, and power systems dealer for central and southern Mississippi. As the industry leader in our territory with 15 locations, helping our customers succeed is our number one priority. We are seeking experienced Diesel Field Service Technicians at our service department in Brookhaven. The Field Service Technician is responsible for the repair, service, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and installation of replacement parts on Caterpillar and allied diesel powered heavy equipment, primarily during service calls at customer locations, using a field service truck in a safe, timely, efficient, and courteous manner. This position will require working hours in addition to the normal work schedule and for emergency calls. This is an intermediate level skilled trade position working independently in a field setting. Position reports to the Field Service Supervisor.
Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities:
•Disassemble, assemble, and install components and parts, including but not limited to powertrain, hydraulic, electrical AC/DC, and diesel engines in accordance with all prescribed quality and safety standards.
•Identify the problem and cause of failure through logical troubleshooting steps.
•Clean, repair, recondition, and maintain equipment and components.
•Test, measure, and adjust engine and machine systems and components.
•Research and determine reusability of parts in accordance with published manufacturer guidelines.
•Coordinate the ordering of replacement parts with supervisor.
•Prepare and submit detailed, complete and legible service reports of all inspection and repairs performed using prescribed forms and procedures in a timely manner.
•Keep supervisor regularly apprised of status of assigned repair jobs and assist in addressing customer questions and concerns.
•Troubleshoot field service delivery-related problems (weather, traffic, breakdowns) to resolution in real time.
•Maintain all motor vehicle logs, documentation, and driving standards as may be required by the Department of Transportation (DOT), federal/state authorities, and the company.
•Inspect all assigned vehicle and equipment daily and report repair and/or maintenance requests to designated manager. Maintain assigned vehicle in a clean and fueled state of readiness.
•Perform minor roadside repairs and basic preventive maintenance to assigned vehicle.
•Maintain a professional and proper personal appearance at all times.
